Robert Scopinich

A lifetime surfer brought up in a family of boat builders and watermen, Robert has a genuine love for the ocean. His paintings are uniquely driven by a surfer's perspective and his work embraces the joy, the fear, and awesome wonder that bonds all surfers. As a Malibu resident he frequently enjoys and explores the places that inspire him to paint.

While primarily a self taught painter, Robert has studied at Pratt Institute, the Art Students League, and Santa Clara University. He is a member of the California Art Club and he is the president of the plein air club, Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore. His early work in sculpture earned his recognition by New York's 57th street galleries . His work has appeared in the New York Times, Surfer Magazine, and Vesage. His experience as Visual Effects Artist in Feature Films has honed his sure sense of light, color, and composition.  Robert describes his painting experience by a favorite quote, "Our truest life is when we are in our dreams awake".
