Robert Scopinich

Growing up in a family of boat builders and watermen, I have always had a close relationship to the ocean. I am inspired by its beauty and I am compelled to create my own impressions of its mystique through painting. For me, painting is not unlike my passion for surfing. The excitement, anticipation, and sense of urgency to capture the moment challenges and awakens my soul in the same way. My goal is always to catch the inspiration and ride its energy to some visual realization. When the light, shapes, and colors all come into view on the canvas, I can say it was a good ride. I hope you will enjoy my paintings and feel the same sense of joy for the ocean’s awesome wonder.

While primarily a self taught painter, Robert has studied at Pratt Institute, the Art Students League, and Santa Clara University. He is a member of the California Art Club and he is a board member of the plein air club, Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore. His early work in sculpture earned his recognition by New York's 57th street galleries . His work has also appeared in the New York Times, Surfer Magazine, and Vesage. His experience as Visual Effects Artist in Feature Films has honed his sure sense of composition, light, and color.  Robert describes his painting experience by a favorite quote, "Our truest life is when we are in our dreams awake".
